The global spread of the COVID pandemic has had direct effects on everyday life, and the elderly population are among those bearing the brunt of the impact. On the flip side, new modes of community services, developments in gerontechnology, and innovative solutions born out of the need to adapt to COVID restrictions have gradually become rooted in our everyday lives.
Embracing a new mindset under COVID, the Social Innovation Regional Forum (SIRF) 2022 invites stakeholders from different sectors across Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Asia Pacific to join forces in reimagining services and technologies, identifying collaborative ways to support older people and disadvantaged groups in leading independent lives and ultimately facilitate the development of age-inclusive communities.

Organised by the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the 3-year social innovation programme is to innovate solutions, in collaboration with a wide spectrum of stakeholders, to respond to social challenges with a view to improving life in Hong Kong. The whole programme consists of four inter-linked key components, namely (i) the “One from Hundred Thousand” Social Innovation Symposium Series, (ii) SOINNO Action Projects, (iii) SOINNO Education, and (iv) SOINNO Knowledge Platform. The programme would engage the trans-disciplinary forces of academia, non-governmental organisations, professional bodies, members of the public, corporations and the Government to generate innovative ideas and practical actions.
